Taylorsville is centrally located in Alexander County which lies in the western part of the Piedmont Province of the Appalachian Highlands. This area is characterized by gentle to rolling topography. Land slopes are generally mild to steep. The northwestern edge of the county borders on the Blue Ridge Province and tends to be more mountainous. Elevations range from about 1000 feet in the southeastern corner to about 2500 feet in the northwestern corner.
